La tendance Tiny Desk AI expliquée
Cet article est disponible en anglais.
Where it started
NPR's Tiny Desk concerts film musicians squeezed behind an office desk. In June 2023 Charlie Wilson played one, and his band's take on the Gap Band's "Outstanding" is the performance the trend is built on.
How it became an AI trend
In autumn 2026 AI edits of that performance started spreading on TikTok. One of the most popular early ones put college football coaches whose teams had just lost into the band. Versions with celebrities and fictional characters followed.
The format works because the setting never changes: the desk, the cramped room, the band locked into the groove. The joke is entirely in who is playing.
Our version
Tiny Desk AI doesn't use NPR's footage or the original recording. We made a desk concert of our own, with five seats: lead vocal, keys, sax and two backing singers. You fill one seat or all five with photos of yourself and your friends, and a reference-to-video AI model re-renders the clip with them in the band. Seats you leave empty keep our original performers.
Doing it responsibly
- Only use photos of yourself, or of adults who agreed to it.
- Don't present the result as real footage, and label it as AI-generated when you post.
- Tiny Desk AI isn't affiliated with or endorsed by NPR, Tiny Desk or any artist. Tiny Desk is a trademark of NPR.
Make your own
Head to the generator, add a photo for each seat you want to recast, and you'll have your desk concert in a few minutes.
